well I've discovered my brake Lamps are not working, got to check my wiring as the cloth has come off in some places, Is there a way I could tell if the switch is working..

I assume it is for your 48??
On my 48, the brake light switch is located at fire wall under the vertical part of the brake pedal.
Take a test light and see if you have power to either terminal. You should have power to one of them. You won't need to have ignition switch on. The other side of the switch should have power when depressing brake pedal. If you have power at that second terminal, I would suggest checking wiring from that point rearward towards the tail lights.

Right...The switch may have take'in a dump...Check with a meter...May be a "ground" problem...I had a problem with my headlights...I would turn them on and the horn would go off...lol ...Old wires touching...Good Luck, Kevin

Those switches can stick. I have had to free the switch on my '51 a couple of times over the years.

If some of the cloth has rotted off on your wiring, I would suggest rewiring the whole car. I did my 48 in 2012. Used a YnZ kit. Not cheap, but was not that hard to install. If you are using turn signals make sure they add those wires. It looks like stock. Kevin47 came over while I was in the middle of it.

The switches are very inexpensive,may want to replace it no matter what the case

Think replacing it is a good idea...Getting down there to do it is another issue...lol I saw some cloth "sleeves" in some catalog a while back...I was thinking of taping the rough spots and "bundle" them all...Lazy, huh..?

Probably be a good idea to make sure you have a fire extinguisher in the car that is ready to go.

Yes it is my 48 and the switch is definitely not stuck. COT40's has new switches for 16.00 bucks. It's been raining so I'll have to wait.. yea naked wires are bad for sure... will check it to see if it has power going to it....

Ok I checked the switch and it's in working order so I went to the tail lights on driver side looked at the wires and noticed one wire was just there not connected to anything. It was broken so I restriped it which wasn't easy that stuff is on there. It had broken where I tied in for the turn signals. So there working now that was an easy fix... I bet I made three different trips out in it yesterday.

Glad to hear you found the problem...Happened to me once...I think it was from all the "stuff" that I keep in my trunk that broke the connection...The wires are old and not very well tucked out of the way...
Good advise Don...I always carry a large one in the back seat...Not necessarily for me, but you never know if a passing motorist might be in need of assistance...!
