I replaced the oil lines to the filter canister in my '48 which has a '57 235 engine. The inlet line to the canister connects to the block via a pipe connection that also has a connection for the oil gauge. The new line for that connection does not have a pipe thread but the kit came with a brass fitting to replace the pipe. I thought I had that fitting about as tight as it could go without ruining it but it leaks. Is it O.K. to use Teflon tape when screwing this fitting into the block? Beamer

I would not use tape.
You probably have the incorrect mating fittings.

Gene, It is the one that came with the kit for that position. The hose and line to the oil gauge are fine. It is just where it screws into the block that has a leak. Beamer

The return that comes out of the bottom of the filter threads into the block. The line connected to the side of the filter (inlet) threads into the "T" for the oil pressure gauge.
The block has a pipe thread. While it should NOT be necessary you could use pipe tape but be careful so it doesn't get into the oil supply.

The pipe T that comes out of the block and has the oil pressure gauge connected to the side and the hose connected straight in, does have pipe thread for the hose but the end that screws into the block is a standard thread. Since the new hose does not have a pipe thread, they provide a fitting to replace the pipe T. That fitting screwed right into the block and I thought I had it tight enough but I was just able to tighten it two full turns. It still leaks but just a little. I am convinced it needs some kind of thread sealer. I am moving this topic to the '57 forum to see what others have done when replacing the pipe with a moder brass fitting. I keep forgetting that while the car is a '48, the engine is a '57! Beamer
