Hi, I just spent an hour replacing Phillip screws with slotted screws, on my 37 Holden built Roadster. About two years ago I had the body fully stripped back to bare metal, and repainted the proper color. I told the restorer I wanted it to stay all original, or as original as possible, when I got it back he had replaced most of the screws with Phillips heads, and thrown out the original screws. I ordered new 37 interior screws from Chevs of the forties, and guess what came a pack full of Phillips screws. A credit to Chevs of the forties, As soon as I pointed out the problem, they refunded me my money straight away. When did Chevrolet start using Phillips, I know Holden didn't use them back then. Has anyone else had this problem.

The only Phillips head screws that I know of in my 1939's is the chrome plated window moulding screws for the windscreen and rear window. They also have a countersunk washer under the head.

I thought that Chevrolet began to use phillips screws in the window moldings in 1935 for USA production. I am sure that Gene and Old Push can either verify or refute that idea. Not sure if any non-USA plants used them then or waited until later?

Some where I have the information that the first Phillips head screws were used in 1936. Not sure of location or how many. Will try to find the ifo. Also this were be for US made Fisher Bodies.

The only thing I found so far is in the June 1936 service News.
New cab trim screws A new screw driver has been released by Kent-Moore to take care of the special screws holding the trim in the 1936 comercial body (truck) cabs.
Because it was for trucks it would not be Fisher Body. Also was this a clutch head or Phillips?

I found some Phillips history. Phillips got the patent for the Phillips in 1936 and Cadillac began using them on the assembly line in 1937. Now does that mean Fisher Body or Cadillac and were the used by Chevrolet Fisher Body also?
