After several days recovering from my "wounds" and thinking about whether I should respond or not, I decided that something, at least, was in order. (Although not named, there is little doubt who was being addressing with the deserving comments of:

a. "Thick-headed."
b. "Pretend."
c. "Apparently intended as humor."
d. "Remarks that are rather embarrassing."
e. "Nonsense."
f. "Apologies."
g. Offended."

Guilty as charged. Accordingly, I personally apologize to all who have read my posts on this thread. Especially, our friends down-under. They shouldn't have to be "thick-skinned." It was not my intent to offend anyone. I try to hold humor to a reasonable degree but sometimes go too far. I did in this thread. I'm sorry. A Agrin icon is not enough sometimes.

Nor was it my intent to embarrass my friends stateside. I apologize to them, as well.

All in all, I learned quite a bit about the 1939 Chevrolet Cabriolet. (Apparently, everyone knew most of the information but me.) I thank ChevyGuru and all others for their explanations of the subject car's history. Well, done.

And, I thank him for his calling me to the woodshed when I needed it. Do too!

Except for the knowledge gained about the 1939 Cabriolet, I wish I had never started the thread. I didn't need the information that badly and, sadly, it led to more of my personally embarrassing antics.

ChevyGuru, I have several items that I don't need that may be of benefit to your restoration of the 1946. One item is a NOS transmission mount and a few decent hubcaps. Several other odds and ends. They're yours for postage only. Just send me your mailing address. I promise the box will not "tick." Oops, dang it, there I go again. Sorry. Agrin

Best wishes,
Charlie computer

Yes. But, if you offend someone that is what one should do. Seems I'll never learn my lesson.

I hope you are doing well.

Best,
Charlie computer

BTW: I had to go back and amend the post. It keep showing that knight on a bowel moving horse if I put in your initials.

Charlie: I log on here every night to do two things… 1) Learn a little about Vintage Chevrolets, and 2) engage in a little friendly banter about life and cars with my friends. I look forward to your posts and musings and outlook on life. Maybe it's because I have thick skin, or maybe it's because I understand tongue in cheek humour… whatever the reason, I'm never offended. Man, and you crack on my heritage and weather regularly! Maybe some day, we'll lose a hockey game to your country, and I'll be in the frame of mind to take the ribbing as insulting… but I doubt it! I mean, what are the chances of the losing??!! No apologies necessary...

I think Charlie should have a forum of his own for those of us who sometimes need a little humor and enjoy the banter.

Are you watching old hockey reruns or does it take a lot of time for the TV signal to arrive at your remote northern location? Just to bring you up to date, last Wednesday the injury laden Detroit Red Wings beat the Montreal Canadians in sudden death overtime and the next day, Thursday, they whooped the Ottawa Senators 6 - 1. Don't be offended now, but losing does happen.

Ha! That's cute… your team of Swedes beat up our team of Russians!! I was referring to international competition… you know, the ones where we throw all the best players on one team, slap a Maple Leaf on their jersey and have them go out and beat everyone else. I think our "B" team of players not playing, could have done well at the olympics too. We had the reigning Norris Trophy winner in the stands watching!!

Well, I have to say - kudos to Charlie for a right proper apology!

I primarily didn't like the way it sounded as if only the cars built in/for the USA market "counted," somehow. If I were from OZ, or Canada, I would not have liked it. But I feel much better now.

I posted in members area at left 2 factory photos of the '39 Cabriolet/Roadster Jack was so kind to send me. As noted, the quality of fit and finish on these models appears to be first rate, especially when you consider they were developed to meet the unique market demands of the Australian buyer, and utilized some '38 as well as custom made components.

At the moment, limited information(or lack of) appears the Aussies may have referred to the trunk model as a Businessman's Roadster, and the Dickie/Rumble seat version as a Cabriolet, admittedly a bit of a reverse from stateside prcatice, but after all, they're down under so things can get upside down!

WOW what a great discussion,
I just thought Id put my 2 bucks worth in
I've got one of those five 1937 Holdens built "Chevrolet" roadsters built with wind up windows.
Mine is a Business Roadster ( large trunk ).
I just wanted to say, I cant join a Holden car club, they only take car from 1948 up, but I can join Chevrolet clubs.
Mines registered as a Chevrolet, and insured as Chevrolet.
badged as Chevrolet.
What is It?.

I dont make the rules but if it proudly wears the Chevrolet badge it is a Chevrolet no matter what part of the world it was built, that is how mine is. Being built here in Aus it should have the driving controls on the RIGHT side unlike those from above the equator that put them on the wrong side.

The brass chassis number plates fitted between 1928 and 1936 (and later trucks) sums it up pretty well. They have the Chevrolet bowtie emblem at the top, Then under that MANUFACTURED BY THE CHEVROLET MOTOR COMPANY , and then all the way down the bottom in a lot smaller font "General Motors Australia" , or after June 1931 "General Motors Holdens LTD" at that stage all Australian ownership of Holden's motor body Builders was procured by General Motors , and has been owned by General Motors (USA) ever since, despite the Holden being called Australia's own car

Yup… They are Chevrolet wherever they are built! I don't understand why anyone would discount a factory from being a builder of "Real Chevrolet's" if that is what is rolling out the door...

We"ll call it "Ask What Charlie computer Thinks"...

I'll start with the first Question: What do you think Charlie computer...? Is Driving on the Right Hand Side of the road better...? ( safer ...? ) Or the left hand side...? Kids, don't try this at home...Kevin

( Special Note : I writing this in the wrong forum...) laugh

Oops...I "jest" realized is Question is okay for this Forum...

While a "personal forum" may be going too far, I for one enjoy Charlie's (and others) banter, those who choose to inject some humour and sometimes a contrarian/provocative viewpoint into the topics. The secret is to not get too personal or go too far, and there will always be someone to set the record straight. Humour is the spice of life. Note how we Commonwealth types spell Humour, Labour, Harbour, Neighbour, etc, proper English, but we never criticize U.S. members for dropping the "U"!

Just reading over this old post,
My father has a 1939 chev holden body sports roadster with factory windup windows.
The doors have a solid frame that curve like the 38 ute doors at the back but are much lower in height and flat across the top of frame like the roadster above the quarter vent windows.
These are not the same frame as used on the sloper door tops.
They are a factory made job.
I've never seen another.

Hi there Haychev, Thank you for the very interesting update to this post. The 1939 Pontiac roadsters had wind up windows without a fixed frame.

The black 1939 Pontiac roadster that resides in Queensland does not have wind up windows. On Tuesday the 9th of August 1938 Preston motors of Melbourne advertised in the Argus they were producing Chevrolet cabriolets. They also ran an ad on Tuesday 11th July 1939advertising 1939 cabriolets. It would seem that although the factory probably didnt advertise them they may have made them to order for some of the dealers. That or the larger dealers had the facilities to make them thierselves.

I do recall seeing the preston motors sticker on the left hand side of the dash of the cabriolet all the other 39 roadsters we have are non windup windows apart from one business roadster which at some time in it's life has been fitted with sloper doors with cut off door frame.
