I recently purchased a 1931 Chevrolet Cabriolet (Job Code 31568) with a Paint Code on the Job Plate of 81 (Coffee Cream and Fawn Brown) and Trim Code is 8. My car and every car seen on the Internet has the fenders painted Fawn Brown, NOT BLACK. Just want to verify that this is correct paint scheme. Frankly, the car looks better with the Fawn Brown on the Fenders.
If it is correct great! If not, how many points would be deducted when the car is judged?
Thank you.

The April 1931 Service News shows paint code 81. Since no special color was listed for the fenders, my conclusion would have to be black...Joe

"Enameled fenders to color match the body optional on Deluxe models of Sport Roadster, Cabriolet and Landau Phaeton." The quote taken from 1931 Chevrolet literature. Fenders in this case included splash aprons and gas tank cover. The bottom side of all those parts was black and the matching color only added to the top side.

So that would indicate the fenders would be the color of the body...not the accents....right?...Joe

One might conclude that the fenders are the same color as the body from the quote. However it was the complimentary molding color that was on the fenders, gas tank cover and splash aprons.

That would indicate his car is correct so no deduction in points would occur providing his car was painted correctly to start with...Joe

Apparently what happened is that the car was painted with the standard black fenders and aprons and either factory or dealer applied the complimentary colored paint to the show side of the parts.
