What is the correct delco generator for a 36 standard coach?
Something else has been swapped in there along with a regulator screwed to the firewall... blech!

The correct generator for a 1936 Standard is a Delco-Remy 946-C.

Sometimes the original as built is not what is desired as sometimes the later replacement parts are more satisfactory from a performance point of view.

The question was concerning which one was correct not what was original equipment. Maybe there is a bit of leeway here. If one had a generator that was listed in a later Chevrolet parts book as right for a 1936 standard, then what would be the difference as to which one is correct? I know this is splitting hairs but still... JD, that was good information. Especially if one's desire was to restore a car to the original parts listing. Nonetheless, I sure would hate to tell a show entrant that there were points off (if that would be the case) because he had a generator that was listed as correct in a later parts book but was not original equipment. I may be missing something here. Charlie

The question was concerning which one was correct not what was original equipment. The original equipment issue is correct, the replacement listed in the later parts book is not correct. "Correct" is how the car came from the factory with the original model generator. Nonetheless, I sure would hate to tell a show entrant that there were points off (if that would be the case) because he had a generator that was listed as correct in a later parts book but was not original equipment.
I may be missing something here. Yep, you are missing the whole point and this is a discussion that we have had on this forum many times previously. Points are deducted when a "replacement" item is used in place of the correct, original factory equipment that the car came with. If a different model of generator is used as a replacement, even though it is shown in a later parts book, the generator is still incorrect for judging because that is not the original model generator that came with the car from the factory. The later generator is considered a retro-fit.

JD, I see. Thanks for explaining that. One learns something every day. Good to know this kind of stuff. Thanks, Charlie

Well its good to get all this info!
I was indeed asking what it came from the factory with as I like to have this stock. However I like to drive also so if I can't find the factory jobber i'll settle for the correct replacement generator.
At any rate I just want to get that modern 6v regulator off the firewall!
