Does anyone know the replacement fan belt number that you can buy at the hardware stores and the type of belt. I remember seeing a thread about this but didn't give any length of these replacement. My 28 at present has a 3/8 wide belt with the adjustment all the way out.

The belt is a 5/8" wide by either 38" or 41" can't remember for sure. One is '28 and the other is early 6 cylinder. I can check it tomorrow if someone else doesn't post which is correct in the mean time.
The hardware store number will be 5L ?? as it is 5/8" wide.

I was thinking it was 38" but had slept several times since I last bought one. Glad you stepped up Blue to set us all straight. BTW I have used the fractional HP belts from the local hardware for many years without any problems.

Thanks for your answers. If I keep moving along with this project it may be on the road again after setting in a shed for 30 plus years. I never thought it would get so many things that needed repaired just setting. It was a running driving car with new tires on it. Tires are now not safe. Radiator was pouring water faster than you could pour it in. On the initial starting after setting it took off on the second turn which surprised me. The car is a early Cabriolet but when my Dad built it he didn't want the rumble seat so used a deck lid instead. We had parts from 3 28's that he took the best metal parts from which included the cowl so it has the body tag from a coupe. The top is all the correct Cabriolet non folding type. Chuick

I got both sizes as I also have a 31 so it doesn't hurt to have a spare. The 5L380 inch fit the 31 and the 5L410 was a little long for the 28 so ended up using a 5L400 on the 28. That way I have a full adjustment left. Now both cars have new belts. Chuick
