Great pictures, Daryl! I never knew that the Indy Pace Car didn't have white walls.

Testing the new Turret Top 1935 Chevrolet Master...

The picture of the pace car in Chevrolet History shows it with white walls. Even mentions the fact that they are Firestone tires. Firestone made all the race car tires back then.

I wonder what it wore out of the factory then. I guess they wouldn't spring for the white walls if they knew Firestone was going to swap them at the track. Is this just an early picture?

My guess is that it was an early picture. Firestone probably mounted their own tires.
Notice how many cars has spot lights.

Another couple of pictures from Australia today...

Brian writes "1. the ”˜29 tourer is a photo I purchased from an estate sale, they were selling the frame, the person said it was of her uncle and his new car? so there is a couple of things a bit unusual for a new Chev from a dealer.
The first is the paint job, no black fenders. They do look a shade or two darker than the body though, it has new shiny step plates and kick plates, they were always available here, wind wings, mascot, bumpers and it looks like leather grabs on the front doors and I just noticed mud flaps, no wonder he is smiling.

2. This poor old (or would have been a pretty new) ”˜27 sedan on it’s roof after a fall from a bridge, looks like only one broken window, probably the one he escaped from, pretty tough those wooden frames.

PS. the gentleman on the bridge was our local Chev dealer at the time."

That poor '27 looks like it took a licking. I'll bet they righted it, checked the oil and fired it back up and got her home. The '29 is one sharp machine as well.

Here's a few Chevrolets that found themselves at the Nevada Test Site during 1955's Operation Teapot nuclear test. Seems like a shame to nuke these cars. Wonder if any of our Chevies glow in the dark...

From the Northern Illinois Region's Facebook page comes this pretty totalled 1932 roadster. It looks like the tow truck just dropped it off here, as there is no other vehicle, and it seems odd it would have that much damage in a residential street. Also note the '32 sedan across the road...

37- Those are some great images of the lube & oil place.

I can't imagine having white cabinets, coveralls, or anything in a garage back then! They'd be filthy all the time. Sharp though.

I also like how there's not a lot of whitewall tires in these images.

I like the picture of the 41 that's loaded with young ladies.

I've been telling y-all that those 41 cabriolets were chick magnets. Right there is an example of more proof. luv2

I suspect that all other photographs of young ladies adorning Chevrolets were faked. Or else the girls were highly paid. These beauties look like volunteers to me. You can't fake a happy smile like that. Can't neither!

Looks like I'm going to have to get going on the 41 project again. There is some strong incentive in that photograph to do so. Is too!

Thanks for posting, Brewster,
Charlie computer

BTW: What is that chrome looking arc of metal-looking something just above the center part of the bumper?. It's just between the two bumper guards.

A while back wasn't there an account of an automobile assembly plant worker who wore a white tuxedo(?) to work? I believe it was about ten years ago if I remember correctly. I think it was a news item.

From Theoldmotor .com This photo shows the final inspection station on the Chevrolet assembly line, at the General Motors Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas City, Missouri, during 1956. The plant was next to the Fairfax Airport and was the former location of the North American Bomber Production Plant, where the B-25 Mitchell was manufactured during World War II. GM bought the former North American Aviation plant in 1945 and setup this Chevrolet facility.
This assembly plant was in operation until 1986, when a modern replacement plant Fairfax Number Two, was opened on the closed original Fairfax Airport.
The photo is courtesy of Joe Sonderman

A 1938 coupe gets "home front" service in 1942. They're never going to make it to 1945 on that front tire!

From Powerglide Magazine's Facebook page...

A 1950 convertible shows a '54 Olds what real cruising looks like!

[Linked Image from i150.photobucket.com]

Let's get that '56 gassed up!

[Linked Image from i150.photobucket.com]

'48 and '51 sedans compete for lower gas prices. Who's going around knocking grilles in, in this town??

[Linked Image from i150.photobucket.com]

And finally, Stonehouse Motors Chevrolet.... Looks to be about 1931. Can anyone explain how "Ford" got painted on the dealership wall??

I think that is my '50. Always wondered why it was a few inches lower than other Stylelines.

I've been trying to keep the thread all Chevrolet, but today I'm going to make an exception. This photo was sent to me by Gene Schneider. It shows how fragile the old wood framed cars were.

In Gene's words...
"My uncles 1927 Essex. His first and only car. Was almost new when he "tipped it over".
Prior to that he blew the engine while still under warranty. A common problem with the Essex as it had a 5 to 1 rear axle ratio."
