After WWII it would be a Delco - with no yellow lettering or filler caps.

The 1940-1948 original Delco 6 volt battery is being reproduced. If interested, I can look up the manufacturer. I do not own one as they are expensive.

Gene,

Surely it had filler caps. I think you meant to say "...or yellow filler caps."

Just nitpicking and I think most readers would know what you meant.

Hmmm. I'll have to check my documentation, but I thought the bowtie was shown on batteries at least through 1948.

If you look st the shop manual and battery warranty slips you will find they used the pre war pictures after WW II.

That picture is of a later Delco battery - say like after 1956. The batteriesprior to that had black filler caps and the Delco lettering was not painted (yellow).

So the battery in the picture would have been a Delco replacement battery?

That would be a 1942 and prior battery with filler caps from about 1953-1955. The yellow ring was first used in the mid 1950's.

Go to Old car manual - see Delco-Remy bulletin , right side of Misc. last item. You will see a battery - published 2-16-49.

Here's a link to the bulletin Gene is referring to.....
http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/electrical/49dr324/7d10001.htm

.....and I haven't seen a reproduction of that battery.

Hope I'm wrong.

One of the big suppliers of reproduction batteries (and the folks I bought my Bowtie battery from) is:

http://antiqueautobattery.com/

They do reproduce a Delco battery, too. They list it as 1923-1954. Take a look and see what you think of it.

Bruce, man, you really poked the hornets nest.

Looking at the bulletin Ken provided a link to. Cover, page 1 the battery is shown with what appears to be a light colored circle AND Delco with light colored letters, right?

Then on page 7 the battery is shown with no circle AND light colored letters.

It is my understanding that "back in the day" most brochures and advertisements were artist rendering.

In the drawing Bruce provided, the battery has rounded corners and appears all black.

Just thought I would point out what I see.

Doesn't the "filling station" sell a sticker you may apply to your battery that says DELCO...To give it the appearance of an original battery...? laugh Thought I saw one there...

I have the sticker on my battery presently and it is not round and has yellow lettering...If I could find the correct repro I might bite the bullet and lay down the cash..But for that type of price and BIG shipping cost.I want it to look correct!I am not sure if we are making much head way....I do like the chevy bowtie model though...With all this controversy I would guess the judges would also not know what would be correct for my 48
What do you think judging team???
