OK.. I have asked several questions about my missing trim tag. Now, I am having one made. The question now is, from the Buffalo Plant, were the Paint, and Trim codes stamped in the plate, or were they raised as the other letters and numbers were? I know it is Buffalo as my serial number starts with 12KH04.. I still have to make up the numbers of the Body as I have no way to find the original number so I will be using my serial number. This is the best I can do...
Style number for a 1940 Master Deluxe 4 door would be 40-1519 Body number (letter) for Buffalo would be B 11495 Trim number would be 86 Paint number would be 273
This is a Black 4 door Master Deluxe with Tan interior, and a red pin strip, as well as a red strip on the wheels.

Isn't that $40,000 car in your link a sports sedan, instead of the sports coupe designation they've applied to it?

I thought he wanted to know which part was raised lettering. It's just a example of a 40 chevy ID tag. $40k is pretty high but it looks correct except for the color. (which might be correct). Even the fuel line is routed correctly, which is rare.

Ed, I think you got your tag about right. Good luck with it. Re the advertised car, I agree that it looks like a sports sedan than a coupe. As to what the three points off were for, maybe: 1. Incorrect placement of the carburetor air filter decal? (just guessing, here) 2. Red paint in the grooves in bumpers, bumper guards and the trunk guard? (I think they were supposed to be black. Why is it so many want to paint them red?) 3. Improper placement of the oil filter on the intake manifold? (I think) 4. Incorrect routing for the carburetor vacuum and fuel lines. (Another guess but Steve says they are correct for the 40. I didn't know that.) 5. Some not too accurate alighnemt of the hood. (real picky, here) Those were the only things I noted that may have caused the three point deduction. Charlie

The fuel line goes under the waterpump(which is crazy). There's a bracket to hold it located in that area. Almost everyone has the fuel line up on top of the waterpump. It would be hard to snake it back in the orginal postion.

Charlie... were the oil filters not dealer installed? Therefore there would be no "incorrect location"... just where the dealer chose to install it?

Brewster, Well, duh. I can't believe you asked that question. Obviously, some were and have been owner installed. Have you been celebrating Thanksgiving early? Charlie (Please call Ms. Brewster over and show this post to her.) (eyes only) Ms. Brewster, it is time to cut him off. He's had enough. Remind him that If he doesn't sober up soon that "cut off" part could take on new meaning, if you get my drift.

Steve, It is an accessory. It consists of a hose that runs from the outside to the valve on the spare tire. You don't have to raise the trunk to check the air in the spare. Of course, 38 owners can't visualize such a convienance. Charlie

I'm not sure I understood your point then Charlie. You stated that you thought the oil filter was installed in the wrong location. Where should it be then? Or were you pointing out that there shouldn't be one on the car at all?
As for the Thanksgiving drinking... I'm not early, you're late! I'm not drinking today, as it is Mrs. Brewster's birthday today, and my chauffeur services will be needed tonight. She's going to need a little extra red wine tonight to get her "over the hill" and into a new decade! I'm 3 weeks behind her... it's going to be a long 3 weeks for her!!

Steve... I think it's below the rear bumper. It just acts like a really long valve stem so you can put a pressure gauge or pump on the spare without getting it out of the trunk.

NOT really.. I have seen the Paint, and trim on 40 Master Deluxe plates both raised and stamped. Each plant seams to do it's own thing. I was asking what did the Buffalo plant do, did they Stamp the paint and trim code, or did they use raised letters?
