while replacing timing gears and having pan and side cover off of the 40` 216...I`m trying to clean it up the best I can in all the oil passages etc. I don`t understand the function of the oil distributor and if it is something to take apart at this time and clean out? Any help here ?? Thanks again ....Martinomon

The oil disributor splits the oil flow. It devides the oil and sends the high pressure to the main bearings. The low pressure feeds the oil pan pipes. It also limits the maximum oil pressure. Generally theeeey require no service . If you had around 15 pounds of oil pressure with hot oil and higher engine speeds everything should be OK.
