I noticed ,from the other post,you didn't have a temp gauge . What is that large rubber hose going to? Also what is the large rubber hose doing clamped over the oil line? Curious

Hi, is this the hose your talking about, its for interior heater I havent tried using it because all the books Ive read show that an oil cup for the water pump should be there. Dose anyone know if this setup for the heater is right. My car is a Holden built standard, same as (Master), with some factory or dealer upgrades. So no temp gauge. PS sorry pics side on.

I was asking about the S shaped hose that is clamped over the pipe nipple on the engine head. That is where the temp probe usually goes in.

If I understand correctly, the S shaped hose attached to the back of the head is actually the feed for the heater. On both my 216s, this is where the temperature sensor is mounted. The hole for the fitting in your head would be much larger than mine.
The feed for my heater comes off the thermostat housing at the front. That heater hose coming off your waterpump would be the return line from your heater.
My 1951 1 Ton is now on the road! My 38 Master 4 Door is also now on the road .

I've never seen three hoses to one heater. Most of the 37-38s have two hoses,one in and one out. Strange. I guess the oil line hose is a repair to the copper line?

theres only the 2 hoses to the heater, the one from behind the radiator fan with valve in it, and the one from rear of the head in engine.

I guess my question would be where does the coolant temp sending unit mount? Below is that view on my '38. You can see the sending unit mounted where that hose is on yours. Here are how the heater hoses are routed.

Hi, My car dosen't have a temp gauge, so no need for a sending unit. someone long ago may have changed the hose and relocaled it, or maybe it was originally that way because that connection point was available.

Interesting, did it come from the factory with no temperature gauge or was it removed by a previous owner? A temperature gauge is an important tool is monitoring the operating health of any internal combustion powered vehicle. I can't imagine operating a car without one.

Holden built 1937 chevrolets had 2 models Standard = ( Master),and Master = (Master deluxe) only the Master =(Master deluxe) came with temp gauge.

According to my US brochure for 38, the standard came without a temperature sensor and the deluxe had one. The Canadian standard came with a temperature gauge.
What is really interesting in the photos of the 37 is there is no hose fitting on the thermostat housing and the fitting on the back of the head is much larger than ours with the temperature sensor.

From 1933-1936 the cheaper model (Standard 1933-36 - Master 1937-1939) came with no temperature gauge.

The temperature guage was an option on the cheaper models, my 37 Master has one and the heater hoses are routed like Tiny's, the temperature sender is mounted in the head, also like Tiny's. I have never seen one with the heater hose mounted where the sender goes in the head. It has always seemed strange to me that they would make a temp guage an option!

The 1934 and prior models has the heater hose attach in that location.

The reason the battery is firewall mounted is because open Chevrolets sold in Australia are fitted with a fairly substantial x member and there is no room to fit a battery in the original location. This applied on the 1937- 39 models although some early 1937s dont have it.
