You should have joined us in Greenwood, SC for the Area 9 Meet. Had about 60 mostly original cars registered for the event. Judging was today. Touring tomorrow and then we head for home on Sunday.

After I got my 48 Fleetmaster and started hitting cruise-ins and local shows, I noticed the same thing. My car was usually the only fat fender Chevy there with her original engine, drivetrain, etc.
- in the middle of a bunch of SBC powered rods. For that reason she seems to attract a lot of attention, and, I get to talk to a lot of people that like to see the cars the way they were built.

Accurate observations by 48heavychevy and oldengineer. Seems like at least 9 out of 10 cars at local cruise-ins are modified. Seems the best place to see original cars is VCCA events and Concours-type shows.

THANKS FOR THE REPLIES GUYS,YALL ARE RIGHT ALSO,I MUST SAY MINE IS THE ONLY ONE THERE IN PRETTY MUCH ORIGINAL STATE,AND I DO GET ALOT OF PEOPLE LOOKIN AT IT,AND ALWAYS NICE COMMENTS,GUESS I JUST NEEDED TO HEAR IT FROM OTHER 48 LOVERS.YOU KNOW THOSE GUYS DO DROP ALOT OF DOUGH INTO THERE CARS AND JUST AS MANY PEOPLE LOOK AT MINE THAN THERE'S.SO I'M GONNA PROUDLY GO AND SHOW MY CAR WITH AMERICAN PRIDE.THAT'S THE WAY SHE WAS BUILT.I NEED TO BE CONTENT WITH WHAT I HAVE INSTEAD OF WHAT I DON'T.AMEN,RANDY.

So far, here in the Netherlands, I have seen five 47/48 Chevrolet cars in detail and only one was hot-roded the other 4 were still original and so is mine. pipe So I guess the Dutch do better as the Americans in this respect nanana

My best guess when restoring a car it take too much money time and more knowlege for most to keep it stock..If you've tried to find a mechanic to help on your original vintage auto, theres very few that even have a clue

I run into the same with most cruise, and local shows. I always have a ton of people around my Original. Love to hear the " I had one just like that" stories fronm the old timers. I could sit and listen for hours! I never get tired of it!

I consider my car a living piece of history. The simplicity of the engineering is amazing to me! To alot of others too....

Having an original car is not only an eye catcher, it is unique. On the 49 to 54 forum, so many folks are using sbc engines and turbo automatic and a mustang ll front end. As stated by another poster, the engineering back in the day is still something to be proud of ...... keep it original, it is only original once.
