Your posting probably should have been in the 1929-32 forum. At any rate, for the correct engine paint for your 1931 contact the Filling Station in Lebanon, Oregon. Here is their web site: www.fillingstation.com

Hey JYD, a question. Do you know if the paint the Filling Station sells is NOS or is it a fresh mix? why I asked is that before it is dry for months it smells like the old paint did, I had a quart of Very old engine paint an uncle in Mo. gave me that smelled just like the Filling Station stuff, and is exactly the same color.

Macky Wacky: The paint that the Filling Station sells is fresh paint. They have it mixed and canned for resale. The Filling Station used a large array of new old stock engine parts and then had the new paint color matched.

No Bill, REALLY old paint, mostly oil based enamels...the newer paints smell differently. I like the old paints better, but they smell bad, know what I mean?

Guys, besides drifting off the subject, it really does not apply to 58-60 Chevys, so off to the proper place.

So this started out in 58 - 60....

And got moved to 33 - 36.

What's with that????

I guess it's better to be closer????

Seems like Macky has been sniffing too much paint!!!!

And, no Mack, I don't know what you mean.

Bill.

Actually, the posting finally get did make its way to the 1929-32 forum by "Dads 31" after he posted it in the 1958-60 forum by mistake. Go here:

https://vccachat.org/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=002209

And then, the inital posting was moved by a moderator from the 1958-60 forum to the 1933-36 forum.

Hi All
I am new and have a 36 Master. The engine is a medium light blue. Is this correct? I am sure it has never been out of the vehicle. Thanks

Welcome to Chevy Chatter!

A medium light blue color is incorrect. The correct color for your engine should be dark blue-gray. You can get the correct color paint from the Filling Station in Oregon.

Why is it that so many 1929-1952 Chevrolet engines have been painted that medium light blue color? It is lighter than the Blue Flame 1953- color, and I have seen more engines painted that color than I have seen painted the correct color. Was medium light blue mistakenly sold as the correct color 20 or 40 years ago?

Actually, many engine rebuilding companies back in the 1950's and 1960's painted the earlier Chevrolet engines blue when they were rebuilt.
When I ordered a "remanufactured" replacement engine for my '51 Chevy back in 1964 it also came in the medium blue color. And, many of the machines shops painted the Chevy six cylinder engine blue as well when the engines were rebuilt.

I am wondering the same thing. I have an original 36 engine and it is painted the light blue of which you speak George.
