Ready to install the tank on my '31 Coach. Have the 2 straps and their bolts. Seems like you just put it in place, and bolt it up, carefully centering filler neck in opening. Were there any pads used to separate it from the straps or from the rear cross member above? Also, I notice my gas cap which appears original equipment is 3&1/4" diameter, same dia as the raised escutcheon on the apron. I recall a debate about 3&1/2" and 2&7/8" caps.

I am currently disassembling a 31 Four Door whose future remains undecided. This car was an unmolested, as built example but sadly the prior owner was far from kind to her. The Gas Tank had no padding either above or below. The strapping was tight to the Tank.

Same thing here.
I have had my tank in and out many times the last few years, and I tried using rubber padding between the tank and the straps, but it just made the fit too tight and removed them . Trying to improve the design didn't really work out.

The gas tank has to be grounded so that the sending unit will work correctly.

Well that makes it easy. The grounding answers another thing that I was pondering, i.e. only a single wire going to sending unit.

If you manage to find a thin enough wear band, you would need to run an earth wire from sender unit to chassis.

Used a bicycle tube to cover the straps on my 32 and 41, know it's not original but it worked for me.
