Does anyone know if 1931 1/2 ton truck and car rear fenders are the same? I bought a pair of rear fenders that were supposed to be for a 1/2 ton pickup, but they seem like they are about an inch too narrow? Were car fenders narrower than 1/2 ton truck fenders?
Thanks, Scott

I did look at The Filling Station catalog and they list them as two separate part numbers for their metal repops, but do not give any other info. But Superior Glass Works lists the same fender for 1931 cars and trucks.....so I am confused.
I will call them later and ask if they know the difference.

Thanks Junkyard Dog. I assume the one difference is that the car rear fenders are about 1" narrower?

The car fenders and 1/2 ton truck fenders have the same general dimensions. The major differences are the location of the bolt holes and the 1/2 ton fenders have a groove on the inboard side running nearly the entire inside arc of the fender. The width of the fenders is the same. The 1 1/2 ton truck fenders are larger than the 1/2 tons.

Chipper.....so the car and 1/2 ton fenders are the same width? Besides the bolt holes, would you say that a car fender can be used in place of a truck fender on a 1/2 ton? Why might it seem like the fenders I have seem like they are about an inch too narrow compared to the running board on my 1/2 ton truck? I can send a picture to show what I mean.
I am building a resto-rod so the fenders don't have to be exact.
Thanks, Scott

The rear of the running boards are the same width on both the passenger and 1/2 ton and for that matter 1 1/2 ton trucks. The front of the running board is wider on the cars but the same as the back on the trucks. I have no clue why the fenders you have are not wide enough unless they are not for a 1931 Chevrolet.
You can use car fenders on the truck but will need to adjust the mounting holes.

Thanks again Chipper. Here is a link to some pics of the fenders. The bottom picture shows the width of the fender compared to the width of the running board. Maybe what I have isn't for a '31. Can anyone identify these fenders? http://www.leppingconsulting.com/fenders/A link to some pics of the rest of the truck http://www.leppingconsulting.com/1931_Chevy%20Pickup/

Yup, What you got are not '31 Chevy truck rear fenders. Look more like '27-'28 rear fenders to me. Repop fenders are available in steel and fiberglass.

Still got those fenders? I got a Chevy Coach and the filling station sent me a right rear fender that is 1" too wide.
