I got the 490 out of the barn to get pics of the wiring routing and other things today. We had a short window of sun and had to take advantage of it. Car did very well, drives super nice and I took it around a couple blocks here in town. The clutch I sprayed out with brake cleaner since the leather was so oily it was sticking to the flywheel and works better but still needs more cleaning. It does seem to slip a little bit when it gets in high gear, but then gets hold. Looks like the speedo is not working so I will look into that in the future. For COretiree, Working on getting you the pics of the routing as soon as possible, but having more computer problems/internet connection problems. I got good shots today with the better light!

Nice to see you are advancing, Bob. May I mention you could try to get Fullers Earth to remove the slippery surface of the clutch leather? The original springs around the clutch cone could be too strong too, so I had to change them to softer steel. Now the clutch works fine on Solan.

The clutch leather was so gummed up it was sticking to the flywheelface and trying to pull away from the clutch cone when it is disenganged. I sprayed it out with 2 cans and had someone push the clutch pedal in and out while spraying it. After that it worked nice and smooth. The spraying was done a few days ago. I think more of the gummy oil has made its way back to the surface of theeather so a few more sprays and it should be ok. I hope anyway. I was also happy with the lack of rattles!

Bob - If you have a chain drive speedometer, I would look there first. My speedo wasn't working either, and I found a broken link inside the conduit.

There are kits available to replace the old style chain with a modern cable that go inside the original speedometer conduit.

Don,
I would suggest you get the speedo cable grease too. If I remember correctly it was a tube in the $15 range. Also, available from Lang's.
