I've got the Radio bug for my COE and would like to find the factory location and style for the antenna on my 46.I would appreicate any input.I'm an old time machinist and not very good on these comp. This looks like a great site,any help I might be to anybody I'm here.Thanks

Welcome to the forum.
We have a 1946 COE in our family also. My dad bought it used in 1950. Later we added a '42 COE and another '46 to the fleet.
For an answer to your question, go to the MR Goodwrench section of the forums, keep scrolling down to the one called Radios and click on it. You will find a thread about '46 truck radios with photos of trucks showing the antennaes.

Mike,
I think the problem with Chris's truck is that it is a COE and where you normally put an antenna, there is a cowl vent. He is looking to find out where the antenna should go in his case.

I forgot about the "air Conditioner". I can't recall how much room there is above the vent door.

Not much, if you tryed to put the antenna above the vent it would look cobbled.I would just like to find some pics. of a Art Deco COE with a antenna on it. Or a factory install sheet would really be nice,then I could be sure.They propaply didn't have many radios in COEs in 46. I apprecate the help guys. Chris

The radio would had been a Motorola, under the dash mount radio. The side mount antenna would miss the vent doe to the two Bakelite mounts are adjustable.
On my 1939 COE which is the same cab as 46. There is just enough room right in front of the bottom door hinge down as low to the finder as you can go, there is about a 2" square area between hinge & vent & fender, down low. nothing inside the cab in the way. The bottom mount will fit there & the top mount will go just above the vent, nothing inside in the way. This lets the antenna stay about 1/2" behind the vent, Or mount it behind drivers seat or behind grab handle on back corner. All will look normal since COE's were not designed for radios.

Several companies made radios for Chevys but Delco is the only one that would have been authorized or recommended by GM for installation in a Chevy truck.
The post you replied to is two years old. I think he was hoping for some original GM radio install instructions.
