I'm getting ready to install the headlamps in my '48. Over the years I've purchased a couple NOS assemblies. The correct one is Group 2.725, P/N 925185. One of the units I have is in a box labeled P/N 926229, which is supposed to be for 47-53 COMM/UTIL, but from all appearances, it seems to look exactly like my passenger unit. If it really was the COMM/UTIL assembly, is there some easy way to tell the difference?? Should it be a different size? Should it be obvious if it really was the COMM/UTIL unit??

First off the truck number will be different because the complete head lamp came with the door(rim) which was painted for the car and chrome for the truck.
Then in reviewing the parts book the sub body is different for the truck (black housing). The going down to the head lamp adjusting screw nut - the car is listed as having two (one for each side?) and the truck has four (two on each side?)
You may also want to check the springs in group 2721.

The truck head lamp assembly was basically a 1949-1952 passenger car unit.

Thanks, Gene. My unit didn't come with a door unit, so no help there. The sub body is natural, not black - so I guess that's a good sign. I'm not sure I follow you on the adjusting screws/nuts. My 1953 book shows 41-53 ALL taking 4 adjusting screws (P/N 924561), which is 2 per headlight I'm assuming, which is what my '48 has. The nut story is a little more confusing, as it does imply that only 2 are required for 41-48, but if you need 4 screws you would also need 4 nuts. My 53 book has the springs the same for 41-53 ALL if they have the single spring (P/N 5937452) and only 41-47 had two springs per headlamp, so I'm not sure that helps any.

So - if the sub body on the 49 and up is black, that would eliminate my headlamp, but other than that, I'm having a hard time differentiating between the two...
