Will the parts from a later model 3 speed fit inside my 1960 trans case? Will a later model 3 speed transmission interchange? It sounds like the throwout bearing is bad but a corvair trans man said it was the gears he thought. He did not tear it down because he did not have replacement gears and he was not sure about interchangeability of later model trans gears or whole trans?
Can anyone give me some direction as to how to work this out????

Not many Corvair guys hang out here on the VCCA site. My son is a pretty saavy Corvair guy so I called him for some info.
MOST of the transmission related parts for your 1960 model are "one year only" parts. This does not necessarily mean that the parts will be hard to find. In many cases there are more parts available for 1960 Corvairs than there are cars to use them.
Your best bet is to go to Corvair center, (probably www.corvaircenter.com) sign up so you can post, then ask your questions there. You will find those guys helpful and knowledgable. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. I am a member of CORSA but I have a 1927 Capitol AA Sport Cabriolet and several other vehicles and was more comfortable with this format. The guys on the 1927 site are experts and quick to reply, so I thought I would try here first. I have heard that they are "one year only" cars as for as parts too. My corvair mechanic calls them "bast#@*" cars. I think that is why he hates to work on it for me??? I will go over to the CORSA site, Thanks again!!

The 1960 3 speed used a combination of standard passenger car gears, 1960 only gears and 1960-65 Corvair gears.

The gears in a 1960 Corvair 3 speed are a combination of 1960 only Corvair gears, some fit 1960-65 Corvairs and some also it 1960-65 full sized cars.

The main shaft is a one year only. I think the aluminum case also.
