Can you help--does it make a difference to run the hot wire to the light switch then to the light? --also which posts on the dash board switch??

This is how the dome light is factory wired in my 1932 Special Sedan: One wire goes from a hot post on the light switch to the dome light body. Another wire goes from a ground on the car body to the dome light switch on the door pillar. A third wire goes from the other side of the dome light switch to the dome light socket.

I am sure the first wire you refer to is connedted to the light switch in the dash. Right?

As mentioned above, one wire is connected to a hot terminal on the back of the light switch. For further help on wiring you might want to purchase a wiring diagram from the Filling Station. You will find it very useful.
