I'd like to recommend Brian Mabry and his License Plate Restoration business. I recently had him do three plates. I was impressed with the job he did and his attention to detail. His prices are reasonable, one plate for $25 plus shipping, $45 for a matched pair plus shipping.

Prices listed on his website are $50 for a single and $90 for a matched pair. Those prices are for repainting and repairs are extra.

I have seen others up here selling matched pairs for the same price (with restoration). I think it is a fair price. In Ontario, in order to register the plates, they must be inspected and the color a exact original match. That alone is not an easy task. I tried painting an old plate last year. It was some painful. i would gladly pay $90 for someone to do it correctly.

Then on the other hand the set I found last summer were a steal at $50 . They are now registered and on the car.

It's not how fast you can go, but how good you look at 20 MPH.

Shawn, you're lucky to get a good year for easy registration. I have the first plates that were on my 1951, and they can not be registered. In 1951 Ont. used two letters, and three numbers (My plate being BT 321). Currently Ontario motorcycles are plated this way, so mine can't be registered as that plate was on a bike last time we checked!

Those accustomed to the finest...find it in Chevrolet.

Don't get me wrong - $90 is a fair price for a quality job. I've retored several sets of plates and there's a lot of work in them. I just thought I'd just mention the current price.

Hi guys,

Just got registered here. I noticed that I have received several hits from this website and decided to join to see why. I can't identify who mentioned me but I certainly appreciate it. My charges did change as of 3/25/10. Still, I am doing this work for less than half of some of my competitors. Hope I can be of help to anyone. Authentic tags on your restored vehicle is the best way to go. Plus, it saves you from answering the very popular question 'Hey, what year is that?'

Glad to see you on Chevy Chatter. Who knows, you might even like it so much you'll decide to join the VCCA! :-)

They've just started allowing ads on Chevy Chatter. You might want to consider that. Not sure what they cost. I'm sure there's a forum for that somewhere...

A funny story comes to mind. Classmate of mine had a 70 Chevelle that he had bought from some hack. He goes off and buys some $800 Stereo with big subwoofers and such. The guy he bought the car from didn't pay much attention to color codes on battery cables. The car was still Neg. Ground, but, he used a black cable on the + and Red on the - Classmate destroyed 3/4 of his new stereo cause he didn't check out the actual posts of the battery. Oops!
