Last month, the wiper arm with blade fell off of my '32 Chevy. Unable to get it to lock back on, I resorted to the manual. It says the end of the shaft has a groove, and that the arm has a clip that fits into the groove.
My wiper shaft doesn't have a groove.
Today at an old car swap meet, I talked to two dealers and one other '32 Chevy owner. Both dealers told me that they have '31 or '32 Chevys that should have the groove, but don't. Same story from the other '32 owner. All three told me they wired their arms on. One drilled a hole through the shaft. One said he tried JB Weld first.
What's going on here?

My original 1932 wiper motor has a groove on the shaft and also a hole in the shaft. Both are used when installing the wiper arm.

JYD, could you tell me how much shaft sticks out from the windshield and how far back from the end the groove is? Looks like I need to retrofit a groove. Thnx-...sam talk

The dog must be napping. I happen to have a spare wiper shaft and it measures 1/2" to the groove from the exterior end..As JYD mentioned it also has a hole in it about 1/16" in diameter and is about 1/8" from the end also.Hope this helps.

'Preciate it Steve, that's just what I needed. We do have to let the ol' Dog work on his "Got it Running" project and to let his mouse finger rest up once in a while. Thnx.....sam

Yep...I was out in the shop all day doing the final touches to Charlotte Mae to take her for a short test drive and to also get some photos for this site, which will be posted in the next half hour or so. While there I did get your measurements but I haven't gotten back on the computer until now. However, I see that Steve already got them for you. Cool!

She really is beauty. I still haven't named mine yet cause I want to call her Vicky, even tho that is a F*** name.
Do Steve's measurements match yours?
Thanks, Skip.
