I had a donut gasket blow out on me this weekend in my car. I went to pick one up at the parts store, and they had one that was made in Mexico and one made by felpro in USA. The one that was made in Mexico was like what I am use to some type of fiber or asbestos but the one made by felpro was out of metal. Have you guys ever seen one made in metal?

Chevrolet sold the metal gaskets for trucks and high performance cars. They stood up much better to the heat. Probably would be better than the modern non-asbestos type. I have them in my '57 and they are doing fine.

I'd say the metal ones are for "heavy duty" use. As Gene mentioned, trucks and high performance cars. Probably a good idea for your 454 BB.
