Thank You

The last 1940 Master Deluxe Business Coupe that I saw had the dome light switch on the dome light chrome rim itself. It is a chrome knurled knob. You pull the chrome knob down and the light comes on.

The 1940 Special Deluxe 2 and 4 door had a slider switch on the right quarter door post. All of the 1940 Master 85, Master deluxe models and the Special Deluxe coupes had the switch on the lamp body. That lamp body was used on 1933-1940 cars like the Standards and the 1937 and up "plain" Master. The upper level cars from 1933-1939 had the post slider switch.

If yours has the switch on the lamp body & you don't have the knob you'll play hell finding one. If anyone here has a box of them they could make a fortune on ebay.

Chevgene,
Does this mean that a 40 SPDC had both the post switch & also a switch on the light itself?
Thank You

The SPDC had the switch on the light only.

Go to ebay and type in: 1940 Chevy dome light. You will see an NOS one for sale.

Toolman
Went to ebay as you said but the person listing them has 2 of them but they do not have the switch on them as Gene has said they should. Does someone sell the switch by itself so I could install it on my own?
Thank You

If its new and the correct lamp housing it will come with the switch. You could not purchase the housing seperate or the switch seperate.
