Has anybody ever used a Mallory Dual Point Distributor. And if so, have any Idea as to the function of the advance mechanism. It appears as if the mallory advances, where the stock retards. Hmmm

I used the Mallory dual point distributor, don't remember there being any difference in the advance and the Delco, In fact I think I used the original vacuum advance. i have also used the Mallory dual point plate replaceing the original one in the Delco distributor in Chevrolet 235 and 261 engines.

Thats kinda what I did. I made a new plate to fit the mallory, and used the bottom of my delco advance. It works well, but it just appears that the mallory has a real advance, and not a retard. It's perplexing. Being that I run 88 octane, I like to have plenty of advance. After having my head shaved 2 years ago, it is about 6.8 to 1 compression. (wow) Maybe I should leave good enough alone.

The reason for my whole bringing this up was, I am working on a homebuilt 6volt MSD (Multiple spark discharge) It works on my bench setup right now, but it is obvious that it needs a bigger condenser. Probly won't work right on a car, but, my brain needs exercise from time to time. So it is fun to get away from the wife and built stuff from ground up. Maybe I will build a time machine next, and go back before I got married and get my head looked at...

I had a funny feeling that Mr.Mack was going to jump on that one. Even as I was typing it, I was trying to phrase it so that it couldn't be twisted.
