I bought a 1940 chev 1/2 ton truck from an estate sale. The truck was completely disasemblied. The engine is a rebuilt 261 motor(no info on who built engine, but owner had built several cars so I feel it was rebuilt by a good shop) I have put the engine together up to the point that I am ready to install the balancer. The crank shaft does not have a threaded center in the shaft to use it to pull the balancer on to the crank shaft. What is the correct method to install the balancer besides using a block of wood and a hammer to drive it on? Reading some info on the 261 motors I found info about the 261 thermostat that said you need to use a double acting thermostat to reduce hot spots in the block during warm up. Is this true, and if so who carries these thermostats, I bought one from auto store but it is to big to fit the 261 therostat housing. Info appreciate, Thanks Harold Pickett
