Hi I am trying to decide what to coat my 67 impala frame with. I found a deal with a powdercoating company that they will strip and powder coat the frame and anything that attaches to the frame $1400. i got to thinkin that is too much to spend. The other route i could go is to have all the parts stripped and have it painted with por15. by doing the por15 i could do it myself and save the money for other things like disc brakes in the front.

what are your thoughts

I have had very good results with RUST-OLEUM Satin Black. It can be brushed or sprayed. Does not have high gloss and can be touched up with ease. It mirrors original chassis black very well.

Of course that is just my opinion.

I have had good results with Rust-Oleum also. Almost 40 years on one car and still looks good. Just wire brushed the frame first. Never thought that I would still have the cars almost 40 years later.

I have limited experience but I used both Pors*, rusto and eastwoods products. I would follow Gene's advice faithfully. And I did, about 95%.

About a year ago I restored my frame & undercarriage. So I wire brushed a LOT scraped a LOT, sanded a LOT and then put on 2 coats of Pors*, followed by 2 coats of Eastwood's Chassis Black Satin. Eastwoods paint flowed beautifully and came out great. Very happy w/results, it cleans nicely and it seems to be holding up very well.

FYI: Eastwood is advertising a new product "Ceramic Chassis Black. Need spraying apparatus.

Good Luck,

*As the label says, Pors will stay on your hands for days & "no" noth-in takes it off.
*Don't use Foam Brushes w/pors
