I would like to add Power Steering to my 54. It has Power Brakes and PowerGlide. I know of someone that has a (I hope) a complete unit off of a 53. I under stand that the 53 and 54 was the same but I'm not sure what to check for to see if it is a complete unit. I hope that someone has done this before and can tell me what to look for and what all I would need to add the power steering.

Hi, You have a real challenge on your hands unless you have the donor car in your possession. Things that are not obvious are critical to the transfer. You will need the two pulley damper for example along with the special pitman arm. You need the mounting bracket and bolts for the pump unit. Your powerglide calls for a special bracket to mount the NSBL switch and then the special linkage. You also need the cold air tube and grill. To really make a nice job is to also obtain the special horn button to set off your work. Suggest you find a car that has the same combination and take many pictures to guide you in insuring you get all the parts necessary for the option.

Thanks Ray & Chev Nut. I'm going to look at this unit this coming Monday so I'll check back for more help if this is OK.
Questions:
I'm not sure about the "left motor mount frame bracket" Do I need to change the motor mount or is this just a bracket from the pump to the mount?
Also not sure about the "drag link front connection" I'll check the parts book to see if I can tell what I'm looking for.

The motor mount bracket that attaches to the frame needs to be changed to make room for the larger PS steering gear.
The end that attaches (threads on to) to the front of the drag link must be changed. It looks like the old fashioned type tie rod end. I would just get the complete drag link if possible.

Well Guys it looks like I'm short a few items. I guess I should list this in parts wanted but thought you might have someone with these parts. I'm not sure about the Neu/backup switch. I heard that the P/S unit needs a differant switch.
I need: 4.019 #3704081 shift rod to P/G. 4.007 #3704076 Gear shift shaft (31" Long) 0.029 #3704061 Drivers side mtr. mount bracket.
