Gene, it looks like a timekeepers office with the extra precision speedometer and huge clock, all the papers on the clipboard and then the odometer is taped over, I guess an electronic cruise-control is out of the question? We didn't get to see them when they past through Eastland TX.(in our area) We were having our LSR meeting in Arlington that Sunday afternoon and one of our couples were given a 50th Anniversary party by the club. Several of our VCCA members went to a town East of Dallas on Friday and saw them.

I just recieved the update from John's wife Conne.
Sunday July 8th-#28 for the day
Monday July 9th-#36 for the day.
Tuesday July 10th-#12 for the day.
Wednesday July 11th-#19 for the day
Cumlated score to that point #26.
There was a terible storm with hail, high winds, and torrential rain. The temp. cooled down from the high 90's to to the low 70's in minutes.
John said the car is running well although the high altitude was somewhat of a problem.
Only three days left till the finish line and stops at Laughlin,Nv, Pomoma Ca., and Orange County , Ca.
The grandson encouraged John to wear shorts due to the hot weather. They stopped at a Sears store and purchased a pair or two and some "stylin" sneaker socks to go with the shorts. Sounds as if wearing shorts is a first for John. Must be the young influence.

The scored 20th place today and the cumlative score is now 25th. Said a lot of cars dropped out today due to the desert heat and mountains. They expect the same for the next two days.

The steering wheel is the De Luxe model and was an accessory. It was used only two years, 1940 and 1941. The two wheels were different. The 1940 did not allow for the movement/adjustment of the location of the hand grip. The 1941 wheel provided an adjustment so you could locate the hand grip in about 1/3 of the wheel. Those wheels are very popular and demand many frogskins if complete or restored. Check the G&D for the wheel when featured in the Chevrolet Accessories for 1941.

Yes indeed. Congrats!!!
Were there various 'classes' of some kind??
Also, how many cars finished vs how many started??
Bill.

Just recieved the full results from the race.John is back in N.Y. and car on the way back. He arrived home Sunday by air. Conne said they were tired and hungry and full of stories.
Results; 8 Aces earned---took third place! (Aces are perfect scores for one leg of one day). First place won 10 Aces....from coast to coast.
15 score on the "championship run" which is the last three days of the race averaged together for a score...out of 68 participants.
22 overall score for the entire race out of the 68 participants.
Conne wrote "You would think John had enough of old cars, but tonight he went to a cruise-in at a near by town with one of his buddies, in a 1932 Chrysler".
Congratulations to John and Scott. Glad to hear they had a safe and trouble free trip. Looking forward to seeing him in Sept.
