I am looking at a 65 ss Chevelle and trying to decode the stampings on engine pad. First off, did chevelles stamp the car ID number on the front pad like on my old 65 Vette?

This car shows no numbers that resemble an ID #. The only stampings I have found look like "TIII3D" The engine is supposed to be a 283 with either 195 or 220 HP with a four speed. Did they produce a 220 HP for use in the Chevelle? I was thinking this might be a replacement block but the block does have a vent tube at the rear. I did not look for date codes on the engine assembly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is this the number stamped in front of the right head?...If so the 1965 283 Chevelle engines would have a number ending in DA,DB,DE,DG, or DH.

There was a 195 HP 2 bbl. and a 220 HP 4 bbl. engine with any transmission.
