The “3493” VIN car has a Period Correct, numbers matching 409 L80. The engine block exhaust intake both carbs are all correct. Not sure on 4-seed or rearend. No serial VIN is stamped on engine. Potential buyers have asked was it the original engine - I say don’t know.
What else can I investigate to insure I correctly describe my car?
look at the engine pad. it should have evidence of ROTARY broach marks instead of the horizontal broach marks on all small blocks and mark4 big block chevy engines. that doesn't prove its the original engine but may be helpful. does casting date of the 409 block fall a couple days to a couple weeks BEFORE the car was built? i assume the casting # is appropriate for the car. mike mccagh
Starting in 1962 all Chevrolets with 300hp or higher had the VIN # stamped next to the engine number. Chevrolet says they have no build sheets available for these cars. The 4 speed cars with 300 hp or higher had the VIN # stamped on the transmission.
