Hello All,
I usually post with questions about my 51 but now I'm helping a friend with his 63 409/425 car. I'm going to re-plate the master cylinder cap (the rest is going to White Post for sleeving and rebuilding). I need some help with the plating finish type.
1. Is the cap itself plain cadmium/zinc? Or is it also yellow dichromate over the zinc?
2. Is the thumb screw also plated or is it just bare steel?
3. There is another piece under the thumb screw, like a formed washer, that has some evidence that it was yellow dichromate. Is that how it should be? Or was it also just zinc/cad?
I can do all the plating and dichromate wash myself but I want to do it with the correct original type plating.
As always, any help is greatly appreciated.

The cap is zinc or silver cad as well as the washer the thumb screw is natural steel.

John,
Thanks for the response. That is what I was thinking.

Jeff

The problem is finding a good cover without any pits for plating. If you can find a Corvair in a salvage yard that has an original master cylinder, they use the same cap and are usually protected much better, and make a great core for the cap

Good luck
John
