Can anyone tell me the original color for the 50 accessory steering wheel? I am considering recasting my wheel, and what is left of the original plastic is heavily weathered and faded. it appears to be a light shade of gray, but because of the fading it is difficult to tell. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Steve

A very light shade of gray is correct. The 1951-1952 version was more of an ivory.

The 1951 steering wheel matched the color of the window crank knobs and the shift knobs and light switch knob.

The area of the cross bar coverered by the horn ring was bare metal.

Dads51...They are talking about the accessory wheel. Your deluxe wheel is fine the way it is.

1951-52 can be seen hereā€¦

Ok what is an accessory steering wheel?

The 1950-1952 caaessory wheel is also refered to as the butterfly wheel because the spoke and horn ring are in the shpe of butterfly wings. It is a solid plastic? wheel and not painted hard ribber.
Several years back they were being reproduced but not accurate as they were more for the modified trade. They were 1" smaller in diameter and came in black and ivory.

What was the attraction to a different, boring sounding wheel?

I wouldn't call it boring, just different. I've always thought the '51/'52 Deluxe wheel and cap looked pretty fancy anyway. I would think of getting a butterfly for my '50, but not my '51. I think if you owned a Standard series back then, an upgrade would look nice.

Hi Guys,
The main advantage I can see is you have clear vison of the instruments, no more trying to see through the horn ring,
Ian.
