I am trying to find the paint code for Forester Green exterior paint. I have a 49 3100 about ready for paint and everywhere I look the color is listed as Standard. no number. Someone from here sent me a GM stock number 2U330.

Can anyone verify the code and if possible in a manufactor code, like PPG?

Forester Green is DuPont #93-62006-This was the DuPont Delux synthetic enamel color number used in 1949.That was the "standard" truck color in those years.If another color was desired it was a special color--and had to be specified by option number...If I remember correctly Forester Green is the same as what DuPont called comerical green.Check it out if its still around.

Truck wheels were painted black and had no stripe.Only the suburbans had body colored wheels and a stripe.I konw the chart lists a wheel stripe but this does not apply to standard 1/2 tons.

You guys make me wonder... a few of the wheels that came with my '37 1/2 ton had stripes on them. I need to look closer, maybe those wheels were the 4 spoke one's rather than the correct 8 spoke one's.

Anyway, even if I don't have the exact wheel on my truck, I wanted to pinstripe them. Were the wheels on '37 1/2 ton pinstriped? I haven't picked a body color yet, so I imagine if there is a pinstripe, the color would depend on the body color?

Grumpy,The later 4 slot wheels that you have with stripes are more than likely from a car.The 1/2 ton truck and car wheels were the same.(except the truck wheels were changed from 4" to 4 1/2" during 1951.)The wider 4 1/2" wheel then became the replacement wheel sold thru parts and the 4" wheel was discontinued..............lil'johnny-will regather my wheel color info. and get back.

Looking thru my info. I would say no.Also wheels may have been black on all -as were the fenders.

Thanks guys... I've been to Lou's website a few times, it's really helpful. I kind of had my heart set on pinstriping the wheels, and I wanted my fenders to be the same color as the rest of the truck. Good thing I was tending towards Black, but that's a lot of black!

It sounds like I need a "price list" to see the color combinations, but it sounds like there may be some flexibility:

"Refer to your price list for charges for various color combinations such as fenders, hoods, wheels, etc., that can be painted standard, optional or special colors."

Are there any such "price lists" on line anywhere?

lil' johnny, I realize what you say is right... my '37 is planned as a "driver", but I'll tend to over do it as I do with everything.

There's lots of time to decide on a color scheme, but soon, the wheels and frame will be painted black and I will not have cut my options.

While Lou's website gives interesting information, I'd really like to see the color chips in full "true" color, in person. My truck has had two blues on it, and a maroon. I have another cab with one of the blues on it, and some yellow. I really like the maroon, but would like to see how red the original red is, how yellow the original yellow is and so on.

Grumpy,I have the color chips for 1937 trucks.There were 3 standard colors and many optional colors available.Many of the optional colors were for fleets that required special colors.Also specifys wheel color as black with the standard colors.No wheel stripes are mentioned.If you would like I could send you copies of the color charts.All but the real dark colors should reproduce OK....A note on the colors and stripes from the Austrailian pictures.These are not correct for even US cars from 1937-39.They mostlikely had there own colors and stripes.Also note the excellant picture (back page May G&D) of the 1939 restored pick-up.Black fenders and wheels and no stripe.
...Later truck colors.!949 production options lists truck colors.Mentions suburbans with colored wheels and a stripe....Then says "Other standard production wheels painted black and no stripe.1949 truck literature lists colored, striped wheels for the Deluxe panel,including the 1 ton, the neat job with the chrome fender mouldings, but nothing for the DeLuxe cab,which was a cab option only.I remember our new 1950 1/2 ton DeLuxe cab parts truck.It has ugly black wheels (was Armour yellow) so they installed the white trim rings to cover the wheels.I drove the truck for about 25,000 miles--10,000 in seconed gear).I have come to the conclusion 99% of the trucks had black wheels and except for the DeLuxe panels and suburbans,black was used.(not saying that I would have black wheels)

I have a 37 pickup and restored it in 1975-76 drove it to Colorado in '76. I restored it as original from the factory, enamel paint and all.Boatswain blue body, black fenders, black wheels. In 1981 at the National anniversary meet in Philadlephia I met another genentleman with a 37 P/U. His truck had the wheels body color (blue) with stripes. I questioned this and he pulled out his handy dandy saleman pocket book and showed where wheel color, wheel striping and fenders painted to match body was an extra. That made me a believer. However I like mine as it would normally in large numbers come from the factory. Just my 2 cents worth which isn't much!!!

I've checked out the color chips from Chev Nut... my truck is mostly Boatswain blue now, but has also had yellow and maroon. Now that I've seen the colors, I like Omaha Orange, Black and the Maroon, none of which were the "standard" colors. I think they all would look good with black fenders and wheels. I don't think I'd like body color on them, too much of one color.

Grumpy,Looking at Walts truck would be the same as looking at a new one.Its that nice.Hope I did not confuse you with all the colors that are available.The orange with the black fenders would also be my choice for samething different.I'm sure 99.9 % were either the blue, green or red when new.And yes the black fenders will give it contrast.The range of special colors available would have been mostly for company or truck fleets.The colored literature from 1937 shows various combinations of colored fenders and contrasting colored bodies.I'm sure that they would have painted a truck any of those colors for a price.

Hey Gene, It didn't confuse me, but it was very entertaining to everyone in the house! I was amused that even my wife and step daughter became interested in the truck project as soon as COLOR selection was discussed.

I'm starting to fall in love with the orange/black/black color combination, my step daughter first pointed it out. It wouldn't even need pinstriped wheels!

Does anyone know of a modern code for Omaha Orange (any paint manufacturer)? If not, I'll take the chip chart to a Dupont distributor and see if we can match it up with a current solid color this Saturday.

Also, I'm assuming the chip has faded somewhat, so should the color be adjusted for shade?
