Geez the books I have are calling for 4x .002" shims under each side of the main bearing caps to start off with. Then start the adjustment procedure... What I received from EGGE Machine and from everyone that I've contacted by phone they just send you one set of one thickness shims (too thick) I believe they are .006" and that's it. They DO NOT peel apart to make thinner ones. Does anyone have a source to purchase shims from that are closer to being correct? I can't be the only one that's dealt with this and there is no way that everyone just put this one size shim set on and called it good. Did you folks just make your own from .002" shim stock? Thank you all as always -freezerburn
If you take a razor blade and work the edge you will find that it is layered.
I searched the local area for shim stock and found .002 .003 .004 in strips 5/8 wide by 1 foot long. They work fine. Chevs of the 40`s rod shim are .009 ?? don`t understand that. I`ve cut up feeler gauges too ,to get some .002 stock. Send me a PM if you want to know where to get the strips here .
What about Grainger? They have shim stock in various materials, thicknesses. Forgive my naivete, (my '47 is the only 216 I've owned), but what material do our shims need to be made from?
Yes, .006" is weird:(
I actually have .002" stock (brass) but would much like to peel what I have if possible. I've also heard of using a file to separate as well as some pb blaster etc. I will of course close out all posts with solutions for the next person to gain from.
Thanks a ton folks and...

Freezerburn,
I took Don's advice and took a razor blade to a new set of shims I had. They ended up all at .006. They were provided by Kanter with my engine rebuild. I could not separate them down to .002 with a razor blade.
Good luck, Mike
Same here Mike, but heck they were good to make templates with... and that's exactly what I did. An extra extra complete set:) .002" x4 everywhere just like the books said. Be cool -freezerburn
