So my oil filter is AC (orange on blue from the 50s-welded on bracket) but it has a drain plug which I heard was removed at the time they switched colors and bracket design. What is this Frankenfilter? Is it possible the early 1950 design had the new bracket and a drain plug?
Does anyone know what the correct colors are for a 47 216 as far as the oil bath filter housing..
The dealer installed AC oil filter in 1950 was orange and blue and had a drain plug. The filter was yellow and black in 1947-1949. Was all black if it was installed at the factory.
Air cleaner and its parts are always black.
DO YOU KNOW THE CORRECT COLORS FOR A 47 OIL FILTER COVER AND THE CANISTER? tHAKS FOR ANY INFO
1947 was more or less a transition in oil filter colors. Yellow body with a black lid was the most common - for an AC brand oil filter.
Do you know where a guy can get the correct yellow paint in either a spray can or a pint can? Looked at Chev of 40's and did not find it. Have you seen a yellow can and blue top at all? Thank You
We just had a lengthy discussion about AC oil filters on another forum I hang at and this site came up.

That oil filter article is very good but has one big ommission. It fails to mention that the factory installed filters were solid black. When I contacted the author he asked for proof - which I have never found. In fact the oil filter was standard equipment on the 1962 235 engines and they were all black. Hertz factory ordered oil filters on their rental cars and they were all black.
