Wondering if .8125" is the correct dia. of the 1947 fleetmaster kingpin . Shopping for correct reamer to use...before I start this project ! Any help with either ? Thanks Guys !

I was just getting ready to order the king pin kit from chevs of the 40's. I thought it was ready to install w/ out modification. Is this not the case?

Check your shop manual. It should tell you how to install the king pins.

Are you sure a reamer is needed? I am working on replacing the king pins on a '46 half ton and was told by seasoned mechanics I would need a reamer. When I started looking into the instructions including the shop manual and Technical Tip section; excellent description and engineering drawings by the way, of the Stovebolt website I learned it was not necessary for that model. Only the heavier duty trucks required reaming.

I ordered replacement parts from the Filling Station.

Do some more research but I'm pretty sure you don't need a reamer on the fleetmaster?

Picked-up a combo reamer/driver on E-bay for $10...still in it's original box. If the reamer isn't needed the driver will still come in handy for knocking out the old and tapping in the new! I'll let everyone know how it went. Thanks Again , hoppy !

One mechanic who rebuilds complete chevy front suspensions(40's to 50's)says the bushings "float in the spindel" and are reamed.
I have ALWAYS REAMED BUSHINGS since a car may of been hit or just bad pot holes will throw out of center the top bushing from the bottom bushing. You can't tell by looking,but when you try to place the kingpin you will find resistance(sometimes BIG resistance)into the opposite bushing. Hard to believe these parts can be bent but it happens-just FYI

Exactly...it's an "alinement" issue your referring too. I see it all the time in the machine shop, the "kingpin" will "pass" through each bushing...But not "both" at the same time...hence a special reamer/driver-alinement all-in-one tool to straighten that problem right out. Otherwise you'll have to "hone" or ream one side oversize so the pin will pass though both and take my advise don't go that route., unless of course you'd like it to be as bad as when you started...
