I'm to understand the script on this battery was yellow?Were the fill caps yellow with black tops?chef

The yellow did not appear till like 1956.I am looking for a good picture of a 1946-48 battery.

Hello Gene: My 1940 United Motors Delco Battery Service Manual shows alot of 6 volt Delco batteries that were available in 1940. Did Delco put Chevrolet script batteries in any or all of the Chevies from 1940 thru 1948 from the factory?

The original equipment battery thru 1942 said Chevrolet (no yellow).The battery is in the parts book and if the dealer purchased the battery from Chevrolet it said Chevrolet,same as the original.
The United Motor Service dealers sold Delco batteries with the Delco name at that time.
The 1946 cars came with the Delco battery and the Chevrolet battery was no longer available thru parts.If the Dealer purchased a battery he had to go thru a UMS dealer.Or if the battery needed replacing during the new car warranty period the dealer returned it to a UMS dealer.
The first battery to have the yellow ring on the cap was in 1953 or 1954.In 1956 the entire cap was yellow.They ellow letters came some time after that.
You will see batteries pictured in ads (prior to the time of yellow letters) having yellow.This was done to make the battery name stand out for the ad.
The most safe way to select a battery before you make a big investment would be to see what the VCCA accepts as correct for judging.From my memory as long as it says Delco it is OK.
The best picture of a 1948-49 Delco battery that I can find is on page 192 of 75 Years of Chevrolet.Caps are very easily seen and just the top of the D and E and L can be seen.
Those old batteries lasted only about 2 years and the warranty was for 18 months if I remember correctly.

Dave I'm Not sure what month, but one of the Chevrolet Service News for 1941/42 shows the "original battery in a car. Has the chevy logo/bow tie on the side. I just looked at it longingly last night. But so far I have not talked myself into shelling out 180.+ shipping + 2 weeks delivery time when I have a good battery. I shouldn't have said any thing, now my battery will go dead. We all know how Murphy works.

October 1941 Chevrolet Service News - on page 57 shows a view of the engine compartment with the battery. My eyes are getting old, but it looks like a Chevrolet bow-tie on the front of the battery. Thanks Mike for the heads up.
