A 240 HP version was made for racing.

as i recall, the first 500 or so 1956 vets were 225HP 2 x 4 cars. the 240 HP 2 x 4 came later in the model year but the factory did produce and sell them. the single 4 BBL 265 irarely shows up on a NCRS judging field, and weren't produce till mid model year production. mike mccagh

The 240 HP had a racing Duntov camshaft and was owner installed but blessed by Chevrolet to be considered stock. The NASCAR cars had 240 HP in big letters on the hood
In 1957 with a 283 it was 270 HP or 283 HP with fuel injection.

Back in 1956 my dads demonstrator was a 150 2 door with a 265 with 2 4 barrels. He couldn't go 100 miles without stopping to fuel up. But he said it would fly.

My 1957 283 245 HP dual carb 3 speed gave 18 mpg on the hiway.
