Hi all,

My grandfather recently passed away and I inherited a 1925 Chevy from him along with various items that he collected over the years.

One piece of equipment that I have yet to identify is this Allen equipment tester. I was hoping someone would be able to help me out with what year this tester is and/or any other information they may have.

My only recollection from talking with my grandfather was a few comments he made over the years suggesting that this was a rarer piece.

Thanks for any help!

I notice it is capable of testing both 6 and 12 volt systems. When did 12 volt systems first appear in the North American market?
I think 1953
That does bring up a good point regarding the 12 volt capability.

The one thing that throws me off is this piece of equipment looks considerably different (much older) than all the test equipment that I have found from Allen (some dating back to the 1930”s)

I wish I would have remembered more about this piece of equipment, we did write down this was pre war - however whether that was accurate or not is likely up for debate. The earliest catalog I found was from 1936 with no luck on identifying the model.
Well, Hupmobile and Studebaker had 12 volt for a year or two in the teens. Dodge Brothers had 12 volt in the 20s.
You might want to post the picture on the AACA forums at aaca.org. They have a section called "what is it?" that is exceptionally good at identifying things like this.

All the Best, Chip
Hi 1925chevy Did your grandfather have any extra parts with the car? I need a gas tank for mine.

John
Thanks all for the help.

Jschildberg - unfortunately I didn’t see any gas tanks laying around. There are quite a bit of misc items that he had (he built a 1922 ford roadster and 1925 ford also)

If I come across any gas tanks digging through the shops I’ll let you know.
Thank you 1925chevy! I hope you have fun with the car.

A member of this forum (though I havent seen a post from him for some time) Junk Yard Dog is fairly knowledgable on the Allen equipment and may be able to help you, you may need to email him direct rather than via the forum.
