I am not a VCCA member, however, I probably would be if I had had the forethought and finances for the subject of this inquiry. I am hoping that the VCCA can help me fill in the missing pieces of my memory about my grandfather’s truck. At least I had always thought it was a pickup truck. During a discussion several years ago before my Dad’s passing he informed me that is was actually a coupe that also had a 4-ft X 4-ft bed. As soon as he said that I remembered setting on a car seat on the side wall of the barn, out of the way, while Pawpaw hand cranked that vehicle. Some details I recall are a chrome strip with Chevy bow tie and DELUXE on each side of the hood and a bow tie on both of the round rubber step ups on each side of the rear bumper. The front of the truck bed was under the rear deck of the cab. That's where Pawpaw put his egg boxes to keep the out of the weather when he took them to the local grocery to sell. LOL, the last time I recall ridding in it I watched the road go by thru a small hole in the floor (I was supposed to cover it when it rained or it was really cold). The 1931-32 5-Window coupe with side mounts looks very familiar to my 60+ year memory. The surviving member of our family from that era confirmed what my Dad had always said that there were not very many of these manufactured. We have been unable to locate any photographs that would assist in this effort to home in on the year and model.

Sounds like a coupe pickup to me. You can Google the term and look at the pictures.

First off welcome to the VCCA Chat site. Always fun to hear of stories of old Chevys and their owners. Not sure what years had a side chrome strip with the deluxe script but I have not seen any on 31-32 and I have a 32. I suggest you look online at some photos of various years to see if any front ends look familiar. The 36 coupes and others did have a box that could be fit in place of the rear lid. It's a common set up on some Australian Chevys and referred to as a "Ute". Maybe a google search will turn up something that looks familiar. Please come back to this site and let us know what you find .

Thanks for the info... 1937 keeps popping up in mind, however, I don't remember the sleek body lines (ok I was pre-teen at the time). Maybe there was a deck trunk lid and what I recall sitting was left from something else. Wish that 50 years ago I had had $11k and some where to keep it (my Dad wasn't supportive of this idea for a newly wed). Haven't been able to verify yet but the fellow who bought it probably made a street rod out of it... ugh, I have always wanted to restore it.

Welcome to Chevy Chat.
If I understand you correctly, the car sold for $11,000, 50 years ago. That would have been a tall price for any unrestored Chevy in 1970. If your memory is correct, it is unlikely a street rodder would have paid that price for a vehicle to modify.
Go to google image and start looking at Chevy photos from the early 30s and advance 1 year at a time until you see something that looks familiar. Good luck. Great story.

My aunt pass away a few months ago and we found a pic of my Grandfather's Truck/Coupe taken around 1968. BTW my brother informed me that that was the rumble seat in the garage

Mystery solved. There might have been rumble seat in the garage but it would not have come from this vehicle if it was manufactured and delivered as a Coupe Pickup. This model came with the pickup bed and a trunk lid for when the bed was not being used.
I don't believe there was a rumble seat version in the '36 Standard line-up.
