I have four transmissions, which I need to identify, before I can proceed.

I would appreciate any assistance you may provide, with these casting numbers.

Numbers are displayed below, as they appear on the transmissions.

FIRST TRANSMISSION.
Casting is located above side cover, on trans. case.
691747 OR 591747.
GM 8.
K 170.

SECOND TRANSMISSION.
Number is located on side cover.
X3845157 GM.
This may be a 3 speed overdrive?

THIRD TRANSMISSION.
Casting is located above side cover, on trans. case.
531092 or 631092.
GM 3.
E225 or E22S.

FOURTH TRANSMISSION.
Casting is located above side cover, on trans. case.
591747.
GM 9.
C 141.

Thanks in advance. dance

691747 OR 591747. 49-54 Passenger http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/parts/1929_54/260.htm

This is the only one I could find in the parts manual.

Keith,
Thanks for your input.

My printed info has part numbers, but no casting numbers.

Thanks to you, Keith, 2 out of the 4 trannys are now identified.

There are still 2 trannys that need to be identified.

There are also codes on the trannys I would like to know about.

Those codes are GM 3, GM 8 AND GM 9. What do they indicate ?

I will say I NEED the tranny info, so I can properly move these parts AND other parts to new owners ..... ASAP.

Whenever I had info for VCCA members, I provided that info to the members, without hesitation. That's what I do.

Now, I'm on the "needing" end, am hoping information will come to me, as I would provide to others.

Thanks.

hey Bob ....I wish I could help out with your numbers on the trannys. Your right, if we knew what the trannys went to , they could be of help to someone if not only for parts. I would expect the insides could have some of the same parts ...Good Luck! ~David PS .....I would think pictures of all 3 could help us if you could post some

Thanks for the reply, David.

The SECOND and THIRD trannys I have listed, in my earlier post, are the two trannys I still need to have identified.

I do not have the "expertise" to post pics here, it's all I can do to type a message.

Hopefully, one of the VCCA members, with casting number experience, will chime in, for I do need to rid myself of inventory ...... soon.

Thank you for your efforts, Keith. I will have to look at the 3845157 for additional numbers on the tranny.

If the 531092 is actually 591092 i found that as a 40 commercial three speed.

Here is what I found.
If 531092 is actually 591092, it fits 1940 Passenger. The E 22 5 (May 22, 1945? 1955?) casting date is a bit concerning.

Your side cover number is correct for 1955-1959 Pickup (not heavy duty transmission), 1956 Passenger, and 1955/56 Corvette. This info came from a 1959 parts catalog, so it could fit newer model trucks that were not covered. If it is an overdrive transmission, it will have a 3rd shift lever, near the back. The listings I found did not specify regular or overdrive transmission.

Guys, this is not an active thread. The spammer posted to an 8 year old thread.

I should pay closer attention.
