Hi!

I have a question concerning a 2002 S-10 4.3 Vortec.

What is that little square box mounted on the finned bracket mounted directly beside the ignition coil? Is that little box like a CDI or some kind of condencer or what?

I ask becouse the truck has come down with ignition troubles and has been narrowed down to the ignition coil putting out a weak spark as it is orangish in color but i dont want to replace THAT when it could be something else casuing it. And that makes me question the small thin square box mounted across from the coil.

What did you find? I know on the full size trucks that the wires that plug into the coil rub thru on the bracket and will cause problems. Don

We found that the ignition coil indeed is bad. That little box mounted to the side of the coil we found is the ignition control module.

Thanks for the info.

Come to find out after trial and error, the coil was still good. It was the ignition control module that was at fault. Coincedentally, the pick-up coil went out twice aswell.

You might want to check the wires around the brackets and make sure nothing is shorting out. Also check the connectors and make sure they are good. I have seen wires bare and caused all kinds of problems. Don

The wires were checked ok. Just these two devices.
