I'm trying to restore a 1939 Chevrolet radio and speedometer. Does anyone have any tips on removing the needles and replacing them?
I also want to repaint the face plate of the 1939 gauge cluster. Does anyone know the correct color to paint it? Is the color available in a spray can?
Thank you.

I believe there were two different colors on the instruments. Not sure of why or when they made the change. I will attach a photo of mine. I have no experience with the speedo or a radio but others will be along that have.

In 1939 there is the early and late instruments. Yours is the early version. The change to the late version was made in May of 1939. The late version is actually 1939 Pontiac type. I believe they are easier to read. Several other changes were made at that time such as the inner part of the grill bears was changed from black to cream, hood louver stripe from red to cream, and on Master Deluxe chrome head light rims. and hood bird with plastic insert standard equipment and was f the low bird curved wing type.

For the speedometer on my truck, I used a very gentle twisting force against the lower stop while pulling on it. I had to replace the needle because it was broken,

I used a curved pair of pliers and was able to pry from underneath. Both of the needles popped off. It looks like they are just pressed on. I will do that after all the painting is done. thank you
