According to this site,
Chevy Headlight Parts the 12 volt version of the bulb used in my 38 has the same candle power as the 6 volt version. I was hoping that they would be brighter.
Interesting. The 2331s I have are the same output high and low beam (30/30 I think). High beam just raises the beam a bit. I wonder what number bulb he's selling?
Tiny,
are yours the standard six volt replacement or are they different? I thought I saw a rating somewhere where one of the numbers was 52 .
All I've found at the vendors are 2330 or 2331 bulbs which are 32/32 CP or the 2320 which are 32/21. I called the guy at AAA parts and he didn't know the bulb number but he said they are 50/32. He's out but he said he'll notify me when he gets more in. From what Steve said I'll likely be waiting a while. Chevs of the 40s sells the 2330. The Filling Station sells the 2320. I don't know what my '38 came from the factory with but it had/has 2331s in it now. They are the bulbs that were in it when I bought it.
If you have original sockets in your '38 the bulb you need-6V- is 2530. It's a 50/32 bulb. 2330 - 32/32 - is for GM cars. 2331 and 2531 are for Chrysler cars.
According to the parts manual the original 38 headlight bulb is:

I found a source of 2530 bulbs on ebay. They look to be made overseas. I couldn't find a US manufacturer. The seller appears to be out of Texas. I'll give them a try & see what happens.
So would the 50 be the high beam or low beam?
The 50 would be the high beam.
