I'm trying to get some information on an accessory that I believe Chevrolet offered in the 30's and/or 40's. It was an outside thermometer, small in size, that apparently attached to the outside mirror arm between the mirror arm mount and the mirror head so it was visible to the driver. Does anyone have any information, pictures or descriptions on this item?

Thanks,
Joe ok

There was an accessory exterior thermometer for the 1941-42 models. The part number was 985728 and it sold for 90 cents.

And accessory interior thermometer was also available for the 1937-39 models. The list price on that one was 39 cents and the part number was 985153.

A photo of the exterior thermometer is shown in the May, 1991 issue of the Generator & Distributor on page 32. The interior thermometer can also be seen on page 34 of the February, 1992 issue of the Generator & Distributor.

wink :)

I'm not even sure of what the thermometer looks like. What I have seen is photo of a car from several feet away and I can see something on the mirror arm along with some text which refers to the thermometer. Whether it's a GM or not, I'm not sure - it could be a after market type of thermometer.

Thanks for the responses!

The thermometer described above is an after market item. I have one and no brand is mentioned on the device. This item was about the normal length for a mirror. The thermometer was mounted approximately 1/2 way between the mirror and mounting bracket.

The accessory gage for the 1941 was a short arm device with the gage being on the end and it did NOT have a mirror.

I suggest you watch the G&D articles each month on the 1941 accessories.

I had such a mirror with the thermometer built into the arm on my 1941 -56 years ago. It was aftermarket but "neat".

Here's a scan of the one in my 1937 Accessories Manual.

Acording to my 1929-1939 Parts Manual, the Thermometer Assembly (Grp. #8.775; P/N 985153; cost 39¢), is "for body interior, All".

Have you called Tim at: Obsolete chevy Parts yet ?

Tim has a lot of old OEM stuff and may have that mirror with the temp gauge in it or put you on the path for finding one. Try Tim's web site or give him a call: www.obschevy.co

I see them occasionally at the Pomona & Long Beach swap meets {California} or ebay. I also believe there's a picture of that Mirror in the 41 Accessory Book.

Best of luck,
