Old Blue has part of the spare tire carrier; the part that attaches to the bottom of the truck bed. I'd like to get info on what the bottom part of the carrier looks like? A photo would be helpful, so I'd know what to look for at swap meets etc. I would even consider making one if I could get dimensions.
Thanks, 37Blue

I believe that there is an illustration of a tire carrier in the Chevrolet parts book.

Mr.Blue,
If you send me your Email address I can send you the pictures in the 1937 Engineering Features Book.
The 1937-38 carrier is not in any of the parts books that I have...the '39-'40 is.

I have had my truck for almost 30 years and I have only seen three complete spare tire carriers. One was the first one I ever saw on a 37, the second was the one I bought (after seeing what one looked like) and I bought one about a years ago, complete, from a 39 truck that look almost exactly, if not exactly, like mine. They are very hard to find, especially the lower portion and I'm surprised someone hasn't reproduced them since 37-40 basically looks and is the same. A 40 would definitely fit a 37.
As far as making one, they are unique in shape and design and not something that could be welded up. They are a "formed" part.

My 38 has the complete spare wheel carrier but the spare wheel was and is missing.

I have a lead on a spare tire assembly from a 37. Let me know if interested. I have only seen 2 of the carriers on Ebay in over 5 years. They sold for about $150 just for the lower unit you mention.
