It's time to line the brakes on my '24 Superior. Can anyone tell me the proper thickness of the lining and a good source. Also, is there anyone in the Los Angeles area that would do the job for me? Thanks!

Tom, I believe that they were 3/16th thick mounted with tubular rivits 9/64th x 5/16th part # 102516 but I will do some more research and let you know.

Hi Tom,

Welcome aboard, it's always good to see familiar faces. Valley Friction in Fresno CA does the shoe and band type brakes and the cone and disk clutches but I don't know anyone for sure in the LA Area. You could start with A1 Clutch or maybe Sparks Automotive at 1965 Gower St.

Try giving Gary Wallace an email chev4cyl@swbell.net. I just purchased break liners, rivets and clutch pads from him for my 26 Superior V. I'm sorry I don't have his phone number, but you can find it in almost any copy of G&D. chevy

You can just click on www.cybersurfers.net/~herb/gary.htm

for Gary's catalog which has the phone and address on the front page.

Thanks all for the hints and advice. To update, I called Valley Friction in Fresno and they suggested I contact Valley Friction Materials in North Hollywood (no connection between the two companies despite the similar names.) I took the brake bands to N. Hollywood and just got them back yesterday. They did a beautiful job! The cost was about $153 for all four bands (emergency and service brakes). I don't know if that's good or bad, but if they last another 80 years I guess it's ok. For anyone interested here's how to contact them:
