Picked up a 1928 Chevy car chassis the other day to use as the basis for a speedster (yeah I'll be transferring over to that forum soon)and I have a couple of questions.
The transmission seems to be a little locked up right now, but were it not, would it be a standard "H" pattern three speed?
Did Chevy make a four speed truck transmission at the time with a creeper low that would bolt to the same driveshaft at the rear?
From what I can tell the rear axle ratio on these cars was 1: 4.20 is that right?
Can anyone tell me the transmission ratios?

The 1928 3 -speed ratios are first = 3.32, second = 1.77, Hi = Direct, Reverse = 4.27.
The model X, LM 4 speed had shift lever held with 2 bolts. The LP, LQ was push and twist.
four speed ratios were first = 6.16, 2nd = 3.47, 3rd = 1.74, 4th = direct.
Passenger pumpkin = 3.77, One Ton = 5.43

Thanks for the info. If I can find one, will the truck transmissions hook up to the car driveshaft? Not worried about the front since I won't be using the Chevy engine anyway so I will be doing some machining.

I made a mistake. The passenger pumpkin has 42 teeth on the ring gear and 11 on pinion. That would make a ratio of 3.818181. .
Both 3 and 4 speed appear to be around 10.5" long and appear to have same bolt pattern to bell housing. I haven't tried it so I don't know. The 27 - 29 passenger rear axles have poor reliability with a 3 speed. If a 4 speed would fit, it might cause problems. It makes a great parade gear.

The 4 speed does not readily fit to a car diff, the LP etc truck had a much bigger, heavier diff with a bigger, thicker tail shaft, and they are a whisker longer, I looked at fitting one in my 28 National years ago and would have had to cut back the torque tube and tail shaft so gave up. If you are making a speedster, use a new repro tailshaft, I am and have posted this in the Speedster chat, Ray
